 Im always a fan of watches that manage to inject a little culture into what is normally a very standard affair of timekeeping. The ERNST BENZ Limited Edition does just that, even if its at a ludicris price point, but beggars cant be choosers I suppose.

Speaking from personal experience, its not always easy to find comfortable footwear for the office or work environment that retains its style and class without being overly casual, but BePositive teeters that line ever so nicely, with a solid collection of footwear for the business casual crowd, filling a void you didn’t even know was there. Available here.

Watches that are able to use interesting color without being too ostentatious are a rarity, but the latest collaboration between Citizen Independent and Yoshio Kubo is certainly an exceptional example of such coordination. The timepiece draws inspiration from military design, and is available here.

The brand is inspired by military garb ironically, but the actual cut of most of the clothes has a very vintage and upstanding feel to it, giving the whole collection a unique look I really haven’t seen in a while. That and I like the fact that I haven’t the faintest idea on how to pronounce the name. More info here.

FUCT seems to have come out of the closet with some class with the release of these hats, which have a definite polish to them that shows good craftsmanship from the company.

The market for vintage well made headphones is quickly becoming saturated with newcomers, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing, as Marshall Headphones looks to be making some well crafted audio equipment for the lofi snob in all of us. More info here.

Jacques Mesrine was an architecture student from a middle-class family who went off to fight in the Algerian War while a teenager, and returned in 1959 with a lust for violence that only a criminal lifestyle could satisfy. In the early 1960s he re-invented himself as a flamboyant villain, the kind of man who would hold up a bank on one side of the street and then, with the police sirens hee-hawing ever closer, stroll across the road to rob another. It was a cop-baiting coup he pulled off on numerous occasions on his way to being declared by the French authorities as public enemy number one, a title he bore with undisguised delight.
Mesrine was also, as one police detective put it at the time, ‘a gangster with marketing savvy’. Even while in hiding from the police after his dramatic 1978 escape from La Santé maximum security prison in Paris, he would invite journalists over and feed them home-cooked dinners, fine claret and self-aggrandising stories. He became something of a cause célèbre, first for left-wing intellectuals – Jean-Paul Sartre endorsed Mesrine’s campaign for prison reform, which eventually led to the abolition of solitary confinement in France – and later for disaffected youth, who still today incorporate his name into rap lyrics.
